01 — Challenge

The technology had evolved. The brand hadn't.

Aera had grown from an experimental energy-monitoring startup into a serious B2B climate-tech platform. Its original identity felt overly technical and startup-oriented, making it difficult to communicate a larger ambition to property developers and enterprise partners.

Its existing identity communicated monitoring and analytics — but not the scale of what the company had become. Research surfaced three problems.

01

The category was visually dominated by blue and green sustainability clichés.

02

Competitors focused heavily on dashboards and technical capabilities.

03

Aera's strongest differentiator — making complex energy behavior understandable — wasn't visible in its brand.

02 — Strategy

The central idea

Make energy visible.

Instead of presenting Aera as another sustainability dashboard, the brand would visualize the movement and behavior of energy itself — the one thing Aera understood better than anyone in its category.

Positioning shifted from a monitoring product to an intelligence platform: not software that reports what a building used, but a system that shows how a building behaves.

03 — Identity

A visual language built from energy in motion.

A dynamic system was developed around flowing lines representing energy moving through buildings. The system can expand, contract, accelerate, and respond to different formats — letting Aera communicate complex technical information while staying recognizable.

01

Geometric A

A single mark built from two rising strokes and a horizontal current — direction and energy in one form.

02

Electric Green

One accent, used sparingly, that separates Aera from a category built on blue-and-green sustainability defaults.

03

Technical Grid

A structural grid derived from building sections, holding data, diagrams, and photography in one order.

04

Energy Flow

Motion principles where lines expand, contract, and accelerate to describe real energy behavior.

04 — Outcome

One coherent system, ready for enterprise.

The new identity gave Aera a stronger foundation for its move into enterprise markets, and replaced a scattered set of assets with a single language running across every channel.

  • 02 Product marketing
  • 03 Events
  • 04 Digital channels
  • 05 Sales presentations

Northform helped us articulate something we'd struggled to explain for years. The new identity doesn't just look different — it finally communicates what makes our technology valuable.
